Who We Are

AYAAN SHEIKH, FOUNDER

Engaging the next generation.

Wow. This is insane.

Today, we find ourselves living amid one of the most historical global phenomena to ever occur: the rise of China.

And the stakes have never been higher.

My name is Ayaan Sheikh, and I’m a junior at Riverdale Country School in NYC.

When I started learning Chinese 6 years ago, I fell in love with the language. Now, with the relationship between the US and China becoming more important than ever, what was once a linguistic intrigue has sprouted into something more.

American political rhetoric consistently paints China as an adversary. But… does it have to be? The relationship between the US and China has the potential to be one of the most transformative international political events to ever occur. As China continues to grow as an economic and geopolitical powerhouse, the implications are huge.

That’s where we come in. The current generation of policymakers and global operatives has presided over a low point in China-US relations. On the other, hand it’s statistically evident that Gen Z’ers have a less negative views of China. At some point, the baton will be passed to us. And when it is, it’s up to us to change this. What do I mean? I mean that the next generation is the key to fostering a mutual understanding between the US and China.

Pressure? Tell me about it. The problem is if you’re like me, it’s hard to learn about important things concerning the US and China because all we get is a bunch of boring, time-consuming articles that make no sense. Jeez… English, please.

Genz Beyond Borders is the first news source written by a Gen Z’er dedicated to educating the next generation in the realm of Chinese-US relations. I’ll be writing and posting quick, consolidated, hopefully entertaining reads on various interesting topics including technology, business, and geopolitics Why? Because the next generation has to have knowledge of what’s going on between the US and China, otherwise… well, you get the picture.

“Uggggh so much work,” you say? BS. I’ll do all the work for you. You just have to read. I’m not your parents: no strings attached.

And if my pleading isn’t enough to convince you, just remember:

The future of the world lies in our hands.

How We Gonna Run A World We Know Nothing About?
